Architecture
Architecture is all about creative design, solving problems, working with clients, and conceiving design ideas that are both aesthetic and practical. Due to the technical skills of the profession, a degree in architecture is needed to obtain an internship and land a full-time job. Many undergraduate architectural programs require internships and on the job training as part of their graduation requirements.
Depending on your personal interests and skill sets, architecture provides a wide variety of specialties and design concentrations. Specialties including commercial, interior, industrial, and residential, along with more niche but quickly growing areas such as green design and historical preservation.
Breaking into the architecture field is competitive and landing an entry-level job with a firm that matches your career goals can be challenging. An internship is a great way to begin networking, refine your architectural focus, and gain on the job training. Starting salaries can be low at some firms but the outlook for architects is very promising.
