Have you seen Wall Street or Boiler Room one too many times? Do you enjoy following the stock market and business news? An internship in finance might be a great way to see if a career in finance is right for you.
Finance isn’t simple number crunching, analyzing equities, and running around Wall Street making deals. Think beyond the movies and the stereotypes. Many financial positions are more broadly focused than just the stock market. Having a strong understanding of financial statements and general economic principals will help candidates applying for internships – although there is oftentimes significant on the job training.
There are a variety of areas to concentrate that range from research to sales to client relations. Areas of finance include a wide range of specialties, including investment banking, brokerage, corporate finance, asset management, financial analysis, financial planning, and risk management.
