Master The Career Fair: After You Go (Part 3)
After the career fair is over, the real work has just begun in your internship search. Once the career fair is behind you, its time to begin working your new connections and to use the experience to land an internship. By following the advice below, you'll know exactly what you need to do in order to impress the companies you met at your career fair.
After the event:
Stay informed –
Many companies that attend career fairs are usually active in on-campus recruitment. Follow up with your school’s career center to find out about any interview opportunities and to see if there are any company information sessions in the weeks and months to follow the fair.
Send follow-up e-mails –
If there are any employers or companies that you spoke with at the career fair, send them a thank-you e-mail. Besides looking professional, you can remind them of your qualifications and general interest in interning with their company. Keep this letter brief
Do more research –
After meeting recruiters and learning more about the opportunities available at specific companies, go back and do more research. Visit the company’s website to learn more about their organization, internship opportunities, and application deadlines.
Stay positive and stay focused –
Think back on the fair and examine your approaches and responses. What things worked for you and what things went less than perfect. Always use these opportunities to improve your technique and networking skills. Use the information you learned about companies and industries to re-examine your focus. The entire process is a learning experience and patience is often the key to finding the perfect summer internship.
